Shopaholic to the Rescue: A Novel

Shopaholic to the Rescue: A Novel - Sophie Kinsella I would say this wasn't typical Becky fashion & I loved that part. I loved seeing her have some control over herself & being extremly mature. I would have been calling Alicia her secret code name out loud! This book definitely had some fun to it without going too crazy. LoL I do not recommend they ever try to be real criminals. smh aspirin!

Go Set a Watchman: A Novel

Go Set a Watchman: A Novel - Lee Harper I have finished this book. I will write a better review later. Right now all I have to say is if you like To Kill A Mockingbird than read this!!

Everything, Everything

Everything, Everything - Nicola Yoon I read this to see if it was appropriate for a 13 year old & I say it isn't. My 13 year old is not your 13 year old so you have to make that decision on your own. The characters in the book Madeline (college age) who lives in a sanitized house she may never leave. Olly (high school senior) who lives next door with his abusive father & battered mother. Are easy to like & relate to believably. Their story isn't complex but it is complicated. I really enjoyed the way the story was told with graphics to go along. It's not a stretch for a young woman or man who spends their days needing entertainment to create it; thus the pictures. I would say if you're looking for a fun, quick & enjoyable read this is definitely your book!

Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men

Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men - Mara Hvistendahl I really enjoyed this book. The writitng is good & unlike other research it tells a story not just lists facts. Mara not only highlights some great information of a war on women that goes well beyond our 1st world ideals. We don't ever consider how far political reach goes into the shaping of the world until that world starts running out of little girls. Those little girls of whom will never grow up to be women.

The world can't grasp how much damage has been done from missing little girls. Little boys miss out on the nuances of courting as young men because there are no other fish in their ocean. That leaves some very lonely & desperate men. All the while sex trafficking of women is growing. A point Mara touches on nicely.

I couldn't even handle the subtleties of all those different countries with missing girls. This definitely isn't something you read if you don't want to admit that corruption goes all the way down to the individuals not just big government. However; it did make me think we should all get those families trying to pay a dowry to start charging! They get looked down upon with no male children but who's laughing now because you can't get a wife! All I know is it couldn't be me because I would be running around creating a daughters without dowry group.

Filled with the Holy Spirit

Filled with the Holy Spirit - Joyce Meyer Great book for new believers or people who's church doesn't teach on the Holy Spirit.

The Woman Who Stole My Life

The Woman Who Stole My Life - Marian Keyes This book was well written. It was dragging in climax for me. I like a little more action with my mystery & this had a lot of mundane "action". It needed more twist & a lot more unexpected elements.

Killing Monica

Killing Monica - Candace Bushnell I like Candace Bushnell usually. This book though was over the top. It had way too much going on & it wasn't that eventful. It reminded me of a busybody telling a story. They know every thing about every person but nothing is important.

If I Could Turn Back Time: A Novel

If I Could Turn Back Time: A Novel - Beth Harbison It had the potential to be an amazing story. It just took too long to finish the small details. I honestly would have loved more plot development.

Who Do You Love: A Novel

Who Do You Love: A Novel - Jennifer Weiner It had a great story line with lots of twist and turns. I didn't realize there were going to be romance novel sex scenes but it wasn't too hard to skip. I gave the book 4 stars because I felt like it was all underdeveloped. I kept waiting for the characters to hit a deeper level. It wasn't the connection or intimate level of understanding you would expect from such a complex & intimate story line. If you meet your soul mate at 8 years old I expect you grow on an intellectual level not just a sexual one.

Finding Audrey

Finding Audrey - Sophie Kinsella I will say I would have given this 5 stars had I known the secret. I mean it's the terrible awful no one wants to talk about but I wanted someone to talk about it!

Audrey has turned into a recluse from this event, her mother becomes an overly paranoid parent & yet nobody wants to give away the secret. Can't do it, I'm nosy! 5 stars requires the feeding of my nosiness & giving up the secret.

I did by far fall in love with Linus. That is a determined young man who see a girl he likes & purposes to go beyond whatever is making him off limits to her world. Now that is bravery because teenage girls can be quite the scary creature! I was one, I have one & I was related to some! Battle may be less frightening.

Applause to Sophie Kinsella for braving such a sensitive topic & not making it a joke. Read it you won't be disappointed. You may not be as nosy as me so you can give 5 stars even with the secret secret! LoL

Digest (Stahlecker Selections)

Digest (Stahlecker Selections) - Gregory Pardlo This book was above my level of poetry understanding. Maybe it was the formatting or my lack of knowledge but I know that it was wasted on me. I enjoyed what I did understand & could wrap my mind around conceptually. While I gave it 5 stars I did not enjoy it 5 stars worth. However, I didn't want the book to be badly rated for my lack of understanding.

The Best of Enemies

The Best of Enemies - Jen Lancaster This book kept up the twist & turn right up until the very end. The ending had me thrown for a serious loop. I usually figure out mysterious early & I did not ever even come close to figuring out that twist! Great job Jen Lancaster for such a brilliant novel that had me stumped!
